Tour Itinerary at a Glance
8-Day/7-Night Itinerary: Berlin, Prague & Budapest
- Day 1: Fly overnight from the US to Berlin, Germany.
- Take an overnight flight from the US to Germany’s buzzing capital, Berlin. Having completed immigration formalities, you’ll have your first chance to explore a city with a history as rich as any in Europe, spanning multiple centuries and era-defining moments. But Berlin is also known for its contemporary art scene, and for the fact one-third of the city comprises green space, providing plenty of opportunity to look beyond its museums and monuments.
- Day 2: Day at leisure in Berlin.
- Start the day at the Brandenburg Gate, the last remaining ceremonial entranceway and a symbol of German reunification since the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. A short stroll north you’ll find the Reichstag, home to the German parliament, and a dome open to visitors. It’s one of a plethora of major sights restored following the fall of the Berlin Wall, alongside the extraordinary collections within the Neue Museum on Museum Island. Pay a visit to the museum in the afternoon to admire highlights including the ancient bust of Egyptian queen Nefertiti. End the day at the observation deck of Berlin TV Tower on Alexanderplatz.
- Day 3: Day at leisure in Berlin.
- After a leisurely breakfast, jump on Berlin’s suburban railway network for a daytrip to the stunning Palace of Sanssouci in Potsdam. Considered ‘Germany’s Versailles,’ it was built as the summer palace of King Frederick the Great in the mid-1700s, and together with its expansive gardens was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990.
- Day 4: Travel from Berlin to Prague, Czech Republic.
- Return to the rails for your included international train transfer from Berlin to Prague, capital of the Czech Republic, a direct journey with no connections lasting approximately four hours. Known as ‘the City of a Hundred Spires,’ Prague features a stunning Old Town alongside an impressive restaurant scene.
- Day 5: Day at leisure in Prague.
- Incorporating the Gothic grandeur of Saint Vitus’ Cathedral, Prague Castle dominates much of the city skyline. Spend the morning discovering its many unique sights, including the structures of Golden Lane and Kohl’s Fountain. Having grabbed a bite to eat, cross the romantic Charles Bridge to Wenceslas Square, named after the king of the famed Christmas carol, via Old Town Square. Known for its medieval astronomical clock, the square is ringed by important historical buildings, with the Kinsky Palace the perfect location for the Czech National Gallery.
- Day 6: Travel from Prague to Budapest, Hungary.
- Travel from Prague to the Hungarian capital Budapest by train, a journey included in your itinerary of approximately seven hours. On arrival, consider opting for a river cruise along the Danube. Not only is the Danube western Europe’s longest river, but it flows past many of Budapest’s most impressive sights, including the parliament building, Fishermen’s Bastion, and Buda Castle, each of which take on an extra sense of atmosphere come nightfall.
- Day 7: Day at leisure in Budapest,
- Having seen Hungary’s grand parliament building from the waters of the Danube yesterday, today you have the chance to step inside. Beyond its democratic purposes, the building houses Hungary’s crown jewels, used in the coronations of monarchs from the twelve to the twentieth centuries. Regain some energy at Ruszwurm, the country’s longest-making confectioner, then stroll among the ancient stones of Buda Castle, dating back to 1265 in the afternoon.
- Day 8: Fly back to the US from Budapest.
- Head to Budapest’s Ferenc Liszt International Airport in good time for your return flight to the US.
