Ideas for Your Vacation
Starting in Montreux, this carefully-planned itinerary uses the Swiss rail network to provide guests with endless opportunities to soak up the extraordinary vistas of the country’s mountains and lakes. With nights in Montreux, Interlaken and Chur in turn, experience both the historic and the contemporary sides of Swiss life, coming to understand how the country’s geography has shaped the national character. Then cross the Alps on the staggeringly beautiful journey of the Bernina Express to Italy, ending in ever-stylish Milan, where grand shopping arcades are as much works of art as da Vinci’s Last Supper.
Itinerary
Day 1: Fly Overnight from US to Geneva Fly overnight from the US to Geneva.
Day 2: Take Train to Montreux Take the train to the small resort town of Montreux on Lake Geneva (included). Check-in at your hotel. Montreux Riviera offers a postcard landscape. It’s a true little piece of heaven that has attracted many artists, writers, and travelers in search of beauty, tranquillity, and inspiration. Nestled between steep hills and the lakeside, with a perfect mild microclimate, the town's promenade is lined with flowers, sculptures, Mediterranean trees, and grand Belle Époque buildings. It is truly Switzerland’s finest.
Day 3: Day at Leisure We recommend booking an optional Cheese Train tour.
Day 4: Travel to Interlaken Check-out from your hotel and take the train from Montreux to Interlaken (included). Check-in at your hotel. When you’re looking for a bit of adventure in the Swiss Alps, Interlaken is a charming resort town providing access to mountain hiking and skiing. Located between two lakes, Thun and Brienz, there are mountain railways and funiculars with indescribable views across the valley and beyond.

Day 5: Day at Leisure Take an optional trip by rail to Jungfraujoch – known as the Top of Europe.
Day 6: Travel to Chur Check-out from your hotel and take the train from Interlaken to Chur. Check-in at your hotel.
Day 7: Bernina Express from Chur to Tirano Check-out from your hotel. Take the Bernina Express from Chur to Tirano (included). The Bernina Express must be the most spectacular Alpine crossing. The scenery is cinematically beautiful as the Bernina Express traverses the 65-m-high Landwasser Viaduct, the Rhaetian Railway’s most distinctive landmark. On the epic journey from Tirano to Chur, you’ll head through 55 tunnels and over 196 bridges. The journey will hold you captive with highlights like the Montebello Curve, with its view of the Bernina massif, the Morteratsch Glacier, the trio of lakes Lej Pitschen, Lej Nair und Lago Bianco, Alp Grüm, and the circular viaduct at Brusio. Now you see why the Bernina/Albula line has long been the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Property.
