Itinerary:
Day 1: Depart the US for Switzerland
Fly overnight from the US to Zurich, Switzerland’s largest city, known for its cosmopolitan atmosphere and stunning museums.
Day 2: Travel to Luzern (Lucerne)
Enjoy the scenery on the hour-long rail journey to Luzern, whose beautiful location and old town charm marry with a host of worthy attractions.
Day 3: Day at leisure in Luzern (Lucerne)
Delve headlong into Luzern’s delights with a steamboat cruise on its self-named lake, or head to Rigi, the ‘Queen of the Mountains’ by aerial tramway or cogwheel train, before a short stroll along its many paths.
Day 4: Cross the Simplon Pass to Milan, Italy
More breathtaking scenery awaits as you travel through the mountains from Luzern to Brig, a journey of around 2.5 hours. Having visited Brig old town and the imposing Stockalper Castle (either on foot or on the ‘little Simplon Express’) you’ll ride an iconic Swiss PostBus the short distance to Domodossola. Keep your camera at the ready, as you’ll be traveling the Simplon Pass, well-known for its stunning natural beauty. Then rejoin the rails for the 2-hour direct train ride to Milan, Italy.
Day 5: Day at Leisure in Milan
Italy’s second-largest city, Milan is packed with impressive sights. Begin with a historic tour at the duomo (cathedral), then consider options including Sforza Castle and La Scala opera house, before admiring da Vinci’s Last Supper and the elegant Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the city’s oldest shopping arcade.
Day 6: Travel from Milan to Venice
