Handgun class covers basics, including stance and aim; virtual range tests student knowledge

Choose Between Two Options

Designed for novice-level students, the handgun-fundamentals class covers the basics of handling revolvers and pistols. After covering topics such as ammunition and nomenclature in the classroom, instructors demonstrate how to responsibly wield a handgun, from stance to aim. They then take students to the virtual range and guide them through applying what they learned in the classroom.

On the virtual range, an electronic screen renders a wide variety of target scenarios and distances, and even produces simulated bullet holes. Students can zoom in on images of their shots. Each lane accommodates up to two people, and because there’s no cost for ammo, visitors get a high amount of repetition.

About Gander Mountain Academy - Minneapolis / Gander Outdoors / Legend Range

Gander Mountain Academy's simulators render virtual targets at varying distances and with real-world precision, including accurate bullet holes. The simulators' technology delivers an array of training benefits, such as making the experience less intimidating for novices and letting advanced students choose more sophisticated target scenarios. Gander Mountain's ownership developed this training technology upon recognizing that with over 130 stores, it was among the nation's largest retailer of firearms. This led to Gander Mountain Academy, a place where technology meets elite-training resources previously available only to the military and law enforcement.
