Ignoring a heaping pile of dirty duds may force you to wear embarrassing clothing (tattered sweatpants, tattered pajamas, tattered Willy Beachum from Fracture costume, etc.). Today's Groupon helps you avoid potential public ridicule with $45 worth of laundry and dry-cleaning services from Garment Valet for $20. It's the perfect gift for family members or friends who don't bury their clothing beneath a bridge after one wear.

The Garment Valet process is fast and simple to use. Set up an account and place your order, toss your dirty clothes into a bag or transatlantic steamer trunk, and leave it out on your doorstep. By morning, your clothing bag will magically vanish when a Garment Valet employee picks it up; by the next day, it will magically reappear full of fresh, tailored-to-fit, crisply folded finery when a Garment Valet employee drops it off.

Pricing is either pay-as-you-go or a value plan (set up a wash schedule and pre-pay each month for a substantial discount). Use the value-plan calculator to figure out which option works better for you. The standard wash-dry-fold is $1.25 per pound. Special-care service ranges from free (belts, cords, and the laundry bag itself) to $5.99 (dry-cleaned pants, skirts, sports coats, and sweaters) to $11.99 (dresses and jackets), all the way up to $49.99 (leather and fur). Garment Valet also performs a number of tailoring options.

Note: You can start using your Groupon at noon on the day following the promotion.

Reviews

Garment Valet has gotten a ton of press from the New York Times, USA Today, Boston Business Journal, and Fox Business News:

  • The story of the young company is a reminder that entrepreneurship often depends more on successful execution than radical reinvention...So Garment Valet founder Dominic Coryell is focused on details... – Rob Walker, New York Times
  • The company recently began using a "greener" cleaning process, which reduces the amount of waste commonly associated with dry cleaning. – Jon Swartz, USA Today

Garment Valet also gets five stars from CitySquares, and 3.5 stars from Yelpers:

  • I was so happy with my dry cleaning service from Garment Valet! It was so easy...They'll even hang your clothes on a temporary wall hook if there isn't already something to hang them on…Garment Valet truly is such a time saver! Their prices beat most dry cleaners, too! – Julie E., CitySquares

Failed Dry-Cleaning Alternatives

For decades, individuals have been imprisoned by traditional wet cleaning that involves taking eight to 15 showers each day in order to clean eight to 15 outfits, then dressing them onto re-appropriated laundry-scarecrows to air-dry overnight. Fortunately, dry cleaning came along and put an end to this nightmare, but not before a few other failed alternatives for cleaning clothes came and went:

  • jet-engine sterilization
  • high-intensity wishing
  • acid baths
  • flesh-eating beetles
  • yelling and yelling and yelling at them
