• The line “Look at me. I’m the captain now,” which was famously used in the film’s trailer, was an ad-lib by actor Barkhad Abdi.
• In order to increase tension, the actors playing Captain Phillips’s crew did not meet the actors playing the Somali pirates until the first invasion scene was filmed.
