Introduced with great fanfare in 1998, Furbies are back in shops, bearing modernized interactive features and a free, fun-filled app. The hirsute, diminutive creatures resemble gremlins or owls, with charmingly large ears and bright eyes that PC Magazine described as possessing a "cartoon-like verve." A subtle third eye works as an IR sensor, letting Furby know that a humanoid or another Furby doll is nearby.

Like your lonely college roommate, who never gets to go back to Nebraska for the holidays, Furby enjoys social interaction—the more the better. The more users talk to Furby, the more English he can speak. Users can feed Furby by touching his mouth, hold him upside down, and introduce him to friends. A free app allows for even more engagement including showers and hygiene rituals. The app also includes games and challenges such as raising Furblings (which can interact with the Furby Boom) and collecting eggs that can hatch into more Furblings.
