About U-Boat
In 1942, Ilvo Fontana, an Italian master engineer and craftsman, was commissioned for a prestigious task from his country’s navy—to design a new watch for the fleet’s pilots. Fontana’s challenge was twofold. He had to adhere to the highest possible engineering precision while crafting a watch that could be read in any conditions brought on by weather or the return of Cthulhu. Though he labored tirelessly over his designs, the Italian Navy never produced his watch.
Nearly 60 years later, Italo Fontana stumbled across his grandfather’s meticulous watch designs. Drawing inspiration from them, he created the U-Boat line. Today, U-Boat watches are crafted in line with Ilvo’s exacting standards in the medieval Italian city of Lucca, ensuring the spirit of the master engineer’s work lives on in each handcrafted timepiece.
