Protect Gibbons and Save: Become a Member of the Gibbon Conservation Center

Introducing the Gibbon Conservation Center - a one-of-a-kind institution dedicated to the conservation, study, and care of gibbons. With a mission to promote public education and habitat preservation, we are committed to making a difference in the lives of these incredible apes.

Established in 1976 by Alan Richard Mootnick, the Gibbon Conservation Center is home to the rarest group of apes in the Western Hemisphere. We are proud to be the only institution in the world that houses and breeds all four genera of gibbon. We have successfully reproduced seven gibbon species, contributing to their survival.

But our work doesn't stop there. We also provide observation and non-invasive research opportunities for students and scientists, participate in relevant Species Survival Plans, and offer consulting services on species identification and gibbon care. Additionally, we assist with gibbon rescue programs in Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Indonesia.

Our dedicated staff, led by Director Gabi, includes experts like Alma, our Operations & Development Manager, Howard Martin DVM, Sophia the Animal Care Specialist, Jesse from the Maintenance Department, and Orien, a caregiver in training. We are also fortunate to have a passionate and knowledgeable Board of Directors and Advisory Board guiding our efforts.

About Gibbon Conservation Center

Classified as small apes, the endangered gibbon hails from Asia where it acrobatically launches itself across distances of up to 40 feet, easily leaping through trees or to the front of a long checkout line of holiday shoppers. At Gibbon Conservation Center, visitors can revel in up-close glimpses of more than 40 gibbons representing five different species. As visitors stroll through the grounds, they can listen to the musical mammals–known as the songbirds of the primate family–croon in high-pitched but melodic yawps. They can also learn about the 47-year old center's efforts to conserve the endangered primates through public education and conservation.
