- The event: The Southeastern Rodeo Association hosts the second annual black rodeo, where African American cowboys and cowgirls of all levels are welcomed to compete for thousands of dollars in prize money.
- History: A lesser-recognized aspect of Western history, the black rodeo circuit was formed in the United States in the ’40s when blacks, unable to compete in mainstream rodeos, formed the Negro Cowboys Rodeo Association.
