Alameda County Fair

The Alameda County Fair is more than just carnival rides, family-friendly entertainment, and hands-on learning, although it’s certainly all of those things, too. But its main distinction is its lineup of live music, with some of the biggest names in contemporary pop, rock, and country scheduled to take the stage:

The Music Highlights

• Cinderella’s Tom Keifer (June 15): As Cinderella’s frontman, Keifer blanketed hits such as “Shake Me” with his impressive howl. After recovering from paralysis of his left vocal cord, he crafted a sound that iTunes dubbed “hard heartland rock” and earned new fans with his 2013 solo debut, The Way Life Goes.
• LeAnn Rimes (June 26): LeAnn stole the spotlight on Star Search when she was 8 years old, and since then, all she’s done is sell more than 44 million albums, win two Grammys, and launch an acting career.
• Crystal Gayle (July 3): As the first female artist in country music to receive platinum album sales, Gayle broke through in 1977 with her inescapable hit, “Don’t it Make My Brown Eyes Blue.” She has 20 #1 songs to her name, and she earned a spot on People magazine’s list of 50 most-beautiful people in the world in the early 80s.

Other Attractions

• In the action sports arena, catch a rodeo, a monster-truck rally, a demolition derby, and horse races.
• In the carnival midway, hop aboard dozens of different rides and win prizes playing games
• On July 4th, watch a fireworks spectacular set to the music of the Oakland Symphony (Tip: the best viewing spots are at the Budweiser Grandstand at the horse-racing track.)
