Bill Murray, Jan Vogler & Friends: New Worlds
Any Bill Murray fan (and who isn’t one?) knows Nick the Lounge Singer, his cheesy SNL character who puts lyrics to the Star Wars theme. But chances are you’ve never seen this comedy legend onstage with a mic in hand and backed by a classical trio. In New Worlds, his new show with German cellist and creative partner Jan Vogler, Murray sings (for real) and reads great writing that sheds light on the American experience, while Vogler’s ensemble brings the words to life with music. You might hear everything from a Walt Whitman poem to the bluesy “It Ain’t Necessarily So” from the Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess. Of course, there are plenty of laughs, too (Murray singing West Side Story’s “I Feel Pretty”). It’s sure to be a night to remember when these master performers collaborate.
