The Deal

• $50 for one admission to a two-hour glassblowing workshop with glass artist Carlyn Ray and her glass team
• Students should wear closed-toed shoes and tie back long hair; cotton clothing is encouraged
• Children are welcome to attend this event
• Upon purchase, you may schedule for one of the available dates
• You must reserve your date here in advance of the event

The workshop will be held at Carlyn Ray Designs in the Dallas Design District.

Each event is capped at 25 purchasers.

What You’ll Do

The art of glassblowing seems to bend the laws of physics as if they were molten sand itself. But that doesn’t mean you have to be an expert to do it. Over the course of Carlyn Ray’s two-hour workshop, she teaches newcomers and glass buffs alike to transform the heat of fire and the clang of steel into something far more delicate: a seasonal ornament.

• Shape It
  First, you’ll sculpt glass into a Christmas ornament or pumpkin, using fire and special equipment.

• Color It
  Choose the colors you want your piece to be, and Carlyn will show you how to add pizzaz to the molten bulb.

• Pick It Up
  After one week, your masterpiece will be cool enough for pickup.

Carlyn Ray fell under a spell the moment she first set eyes on glass as a child. From there, her passion has led her to some exciting places: the studio of Dale Chihuly, whom she worked with directly; Celebrity cruise ships, where her voice narrates the Hot Glass Show; the pages of Best of America – Glass Artists volumes I and II. Carlyn was a teaching assistant for artist Martin Janecky at the Corning Museum of Glass, and she’s an artist in residence at West Texas A&M University, but she also teaches in more casual settings, inspiring newcomers to try their hand at the molten medium.
