The Scouting Report
Despite posting a winning record in 2013, the Charleston RiverDogs just barely missed a shot at the postseason. When they return to the diamond in April, they’ll seek a third-consecutive winning season and their first playoff bid since 2005. As the team takes on South Atlantic League foes and harvests any vegetables growing in the outfield, fans can enjoy weekly specials from the stands. Wednesdays nights are “guaranteed win” nights—if the team loses, fans receive a free ticket to the next Wednesday night home game. On Fridays, the RiverDogs players and staff don special camouflage-tinged red jerseys for matches that include a post-game fireworks show.
Charleston RiverDogs
As a Class A affiliate of the New York Yankees, the Charleston RiverDogs aim to enchant fans with shapely curveballs and winning line drives. The club takes the field at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park, where fans can take in views of the Ashley River as they watch the next crop of major-league stars sprout from the nutrient-rich soil stored within their cleats. Between innings, fans can snack on the Riley Park’s concession stands’ pickle dogs, brat cheesesteaks, and old-fashioned boiled peanuts—just some of the delicacies that have lured ballpark-cuisine fans from the Travel Channel to The Joe.
