Scouting Report
With the latter half of the Florida State League’s 2014 season now underway, the Stone Crabs continue to compete for supremacy in the competitive South Division. With this Groupon fans can catch games throughout the remainder of the season, including an early August homestand against the Daytona Cubs, Charlotte’s opponent in the 2013 league finals. The Stone Crabs also face the Fort Myers Miracle, who lead the South Division through the first half of the season but still haven’t clinched the big pizza party awarded to the winner at the end of the regular season.
Charlotte Stone Crabs
The class A-Advanced affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, the Charlotte Stone Crabs entered the Florida State League with a splash in 2009. Under the leadership of manager Jim Morrison—not to be confused with the Jim Morrison, the team’s most popular hot dog vendor—the Stone Crabs reached the league championship on back-to-back attempts in its first two seasons. The squad continues to fight for their first league championship at Charlotte Sports Park, which they share with their parent Rays during spring training and which was named USA Today’s “Best Spring Training Facility” for 2014.
