Making the Most of a Pilgrimage to Wrigley

Two shots at the obligatory Wrigley-marquee photo: A visit to Wrigley Field almost demands you snap a photo of its iconic marquee. Here’s a tip: take two. One before the game—just in case the excitement or Old Style makes you forgetful on your way out. But if the home team nabs a win, double up with a post-game shot—this time while the famous display flashes “CUBS WIN!”

Next Stop Addison: The train ride to Wrigley is more convenient; it’s also more fun. Hordes of Cubs faithful make the CTA’s red line something of an event for game-goers. The excitement reaches an apex when the L train pulls up to Addison—the station’s so close you’ll think it’s brushing up against the ballpark. Most of the cheers will be from anticipation, though no doubt some are celebrating the fact that they dodged the hassles and costs of parking nearby.

Keep your eyes—and ears—peeled for the “Woo:” If he’s not the Cubs’ biggest fan, Ronnie Woo Woo is certainly the most visible. Ronnie has been a near-constant presence at Cubs home games since the 60s, always dutifully garbed in a Cubs uni with WOO WOO stitched on the back. He’s as easy to hear as he is to spot: Ronnie’s chirps of “Cubs-Woo, Cubs-Woo, Cubs-Woo” is as much a mainstay as the ivy in the outfield.
