Circus Caballero
Kids in the Caballero family can’t really threaten to run away and join the circus—they’re already in it. Under the high slopes of their bright, spacious traveling tent, three generations of Caballeros bring more than 65 years of circus artistry to shine in the spotlight. The show is performed in Spanish and English, though the talent these performers bring to the big top transcends language altogether.
To see the Caballeros is to see diamond-spangled costumes glint and flash as acrobats careen off the flying trapeze. A globe walker springs from foot to foot atop a huge sphere while red-nosed clowns inspire laughter and jugglers and child-aged daredevils incite gasps. Brothers Ruben, age 17, Marco Antonio, age 16, and Gunther, age 7, perform a daring motorcycle act with another rider joining in at the same time. The older brothers are accomplished trapeze stars who perform a triple somersault and have been perfecting the almost-impossible quadruple. Throughout the show, performers interact with the audience to make them feel part of the action. The only thing you won’t find in the Circus Caballero is an animal performer—the family is committed to only human-only acts, much to the delight of many advocates of fauna.
