The Barber of Seville

• The Plot: A barber proves he’s much more than that when he’s hired to help a wealthy count win the heart a maiden who’s in the custody of a diabolical doctor.
• The Characters: the comical, boisterous Figaro; the wealthy—and lovelorn—Count Almaviva; the beautiful Rosina; and the vile Dr. Bartolo
• The Showstopper: The opera’s most famous aria is “Largo al factotum” (“Make way for the factotum”), though Bugs Bunny fans may know it simply as “Figaro! Figaro!” The barber belts this tongue-twisting piece by way of introduction, establishing a personality at once bombastic, bold, and able.
