Funny Side Up and Buggy Fever
Hosted by ventriloquist Ken Groves, Funny Side Up and Buggy Fever bring back Hee Haw-style variety with a blend of standup comedy and bluegrass. Having performed in such diverse locations as Tokyo and Vegas, Groves uses his puppets to channel personalities as diverse as fast-talking C.W., boxing-champ George, and retirement-home-bound George. Joining him are comedians such as Lynyrd, an energetic, self-described country bumpkin with a knack for accompanying himself on the trumpet, and the Jonas Brothers who lovingly skewer the foibles of country living in Amish Country. Backing the whole show up is Saltcreek Bluegrass, the house band that tickles ears and inspires banjo-dueling challenges with renditions of such classics as “Pistol Packin’ Mamma,” “Gloom, Despair,” and “Rocky Top.”
The Amish Country Theater
Of all the things to fill an Amish barn, a variety show is among the least likely. But that's exactly what's inside Amish Country Theater. In a space that boasts the same rustic, wooden construction of a real Amish barn, comedians and musicians lob punchlines and fiddle solos while audiences slap their knees and tap their toes. But the venue isn't totally rooted in the old ways. Climate control plus state-of-the-art sound and lighting transform it into a fitting venue for daily performances. Just outside the theater entrance, meanwhile, the Barnyard Fixins' stand sells tasty treats to keep tummy rumbles from distracting from the performance or attracting lonely bears looking for others to growl with.
