About Harry S. Truman Little White House Admission
Although William Taft was the first POTUS to visit this naval compound in 1912, the property gained its reputation as "The Little White House" from its association with President Harry S. Truman, who spent 175 days there between 1946 to 1952. Located on the western waterfront of Key West's Historic District, this living museum was constructed in 1890 and served as naval command headquarters from Spanish-American War until World War II. Often utilized as a winter getaway, Truman conducted state business, and kept an eye on Cuba, from this balmy paradise on 11 different visits. Now operating as a non-profit, the Little White House continues to serve as an active presidential site and museum, welcoming history buffs and some of the nation's leaders alike to attend events and learn more about Truman's legacy to the United States.
