About Like a Local Tours

Like A Local Tours recognizes and honors the Munsee Lenape ancestors—past, present, and future. They acknowledge that their work takes place on the Lenape island of Manhattan (Mannahatta) and within Lenapehoking, the traditional homeland of the Lenape people.

Part of their mission is to raise awareness of the lineages that preceded them. Like A Local Tours operates within a tapestry of historical and contemporary connections with the Lenape people, acknowledging them as the original stewards and caretakers of this land. The traditional Lenapehoking spans from upstate New York and the Catskills to the Delaware Bay.

As current stewards of this sacred land, Like A Local Tours takes responsibility for educating others about the history and contributions of Native peoples. Their commitment to diversity and inclusion drives them to go beyond a mere land acknowledgment. They are actively working to build meaningful relationships with the Lenape and other Indigenous communities through partnerships, historical recognition, and service-learning efforts, integrating Lenape wisdom into their practices.
