Madness on Tour
More than four decades have passed since the debut album of Madness hit the shelves, yet the UK's ska stalwarts are still dedicated to pushing fans into uncharted territories. With six out of seven original members still actively engaged, Madness continues to uphold its status as one of Britain's most exuberant and dynamic live acts, boasting an extensive repertoire of over 20 UK Top 40 hits. Their triumphant conclusion to the 2019 season with three back-to-back nights at London's iconic Roundhouse, labeled as "Past Present Future," signifies that this veteran ensemble still has plenty of ska moves left to unveil. Whether it's a sweaty club gig or a sun-soaked festival stage, attendees can anticipate a night filled with relentless dancing and chorus-filled sing-alongs.
Madness in Concert
Initially emerging from the two-tone ska movement flourishing in late-'70s England, Madness carved its niche by infusing a quintessentially British pop flair, maintaining a steady presence atop the UK charts throughout the '80s. Transitioning from their punk roots, they charmed audiences with infectious skanking anthems like "One Step Beyond" and "Baggy Trousers." However, they also showcased a softer side with chart-toppers like the heartfelt rendition of "It Must Be Love" in 1981 and the evergreen hit "Our House," which marked their lone Top 10 single in the U.S. While their chart dominance waned in the '90s, Madness' influence permeated through various acts, from No Doubt to Blur to The Streets, laying the groundwork for their resurgence in the 21st century. In 2009, they unleashed their first original material in a decade with The Liberty of Norton Folgate, a bold musical narrative that catapulted them back into the UK Top 5, affirming that Madness is far from embracing nostalgia as they continue to shape the contemporary music scene.
