The Scouting Report
In his first three months as a college athlete, freshman point guard Melo Trimble has made quite an impression—so much so, in fact, that ESPN’s Jay Bilas picked him as one of the best freshmen in the nation. The Upper Marlboro native leads the Terrapins with 16 points per game, and he has a knack for getting to the free-throw line without having to disguise himself as a free-throw-line repairman. Trimble has teamed up with star forward Jake Layman to establish Maryland as not only one of the best teams in the Big Ten conference, but also in the country. On February 4, the 13th-ranked Terrapins will defend their spot atop the conference standings when they take on Penn State at the XFINITY Center.
University of Maryland Terrapins
As the winners of 25 NCAA team championships, the University of Maryland Terrapins have grown into one of the elite collegiate programs across both men’s and women’s sports. On the Comcast Center court, the Terrapins men’s basketball team has played tough enough to snag the NCAA National Championship in 2002 against the Indiana Hoosiers.
