Monterey Zoo was proudly accredited by the Zoological Association of America in June 2020, a tribute to all who worked tirelessly with limited resources to build the zoo. While providing exemplary animal care, the Monterey Zoological Society is committed to delivering an entertaining, educational, and conservation-minded experience that fosters public awareness and respect for all wildlife.

What’s Included

The Monterey Zoo is home to over 100 exotic animals, ranging from spiders to rhinos. The zoo continues to offer full-time educational programs, reaching thousands of children and adults annually.

Daily Admission: Open 10 AM - 3 PM every day (Closed on Easter, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day).

VIAP Tour (Very Important Animal Person): This 3-hour adventure allows guests to experience personal and hands-on encounters with four of our "Wild Things." The tour includes a catered deli-style lunch with the keepers and a behind-the-scenes look at the animals. This private group tour is reservation-only and offers an educational experience with opportunities for photos and videos. The animals showcased vary depending on season, weather, and trainer availability. Valid for ages 4+.

Crunch Time – Bedtime Combo Tour: Join in during feeding time for our "Big Cats," one of the zoo's most thrilling activities. Witness instinctual behavior up close and learn why safety and training protocols are critical. Crunch Time begins around 4:30 lasting 30 to 45 minutes. Follow it up with Buddy's Bedtime! You’re invited to help learn about the Rhino's histories, diets, training and our state of the art rhino facilities while also learning a vital conservation message that could help save these very iconic/ threatened/endangered species from extinction.

Age ranges for age-specific tickets:

  • Adult Daily Admission: Ages 15+
  • Child Daily Admission: Ages 2-14
  • Combo Tour: Ages 4+ (subject to availability)
  • VIAP Tour: Valid for up to 2 people; Ages 4+ (subject to availability)
