The Deal

• $35 for one admission to a two-hour Mother’s Day glassblowing class at Decatur Glassblowing
• Participants must wear closed-toe shoes; jeans and a T-shirt are recommended
• Upon purchase, you may schedule for one of the available dates
• You must reserve your date here in advance of the event

Each event is capped at 20 purchasers.

What You’ll Do

Just inside Decatur Glassblowing, a human-sized metal robot sculpture with a red glass belly stands ready to greet anyone who walks through the door. From there, an instructor leads guests into the open, warehouse-like studio, where they’ll glimpse a small sample of the owner’s work—from vases to abstract figures—much of which is for sale. There the instructor introduces the group to essential glassblowing tools and demonstrates the process before guiding participants through the creation of their own glass flower, just in time for Mother’s Day.

  Following an overview of glassblowing safety and equipment, watch a beginner-friendly demonstration of the glassblowing process.

• Design a Mother’s Day Gift
  The instructor will help each person blow a colorful glass flower.

• Take Your Blossom Home
  You can pick the flower up the next day or arrange for it to be mailed for an additional charge.

When it comes to the creative process, the owner of Decatur Glassblowing isn’t one to slave away in isolation. The artist surrounds himself in inspiration—namely his assistants and fellow craftsmen at the studio, where the walls twinkle with colorful glass that’s both decorative and functional. Throughout the year, the studio hosts live demonstrations, music performances, and classes taught by a team of instructors.
