Nightmare on the Bayou
If you see a floating white orb at Nightmare on the Bayou, it could just be one of the haunted house’s creepy special effects. But it also might not be. According to the staffers who work there, the haunted house is actually haunted with real ghosts, perhaps due to its location directly next to Houston’s oldest graveyard.
Even if you don’t see any real ghosts, Nightmare has plenty of ways to scare visitors, from committed actors in tattered rags and movie-worthy special-effects makeup to rooms with grotesquely macabre sets. One room, for instance, features headless Mickey Mouse characters dangling from the ceiling and walls scribbled with the words “They Watch You” and “They Think Cats Wearing Tiny Hats Are Not Amusing.” Nightmare on the Bayou has been featured on the Travel Channel, and it has been known to host such groups as the Texans cheerleaders.
