Omaha Community Playhouse, fueled by an army of volunteers and a core professional staff since 1924, performs a diverse array of Broadway-quality musicals and plays. On Golden Pond’s actors warm hearts with their portrayal of an elderly couple’s travails and triumphs, while the powerful voices behind The Fantasticks charm ears with a tuneful tale of star-crossed love. Altar Boys, the story of five small-town Christian boys and their pious pop act, bursts with respectfully irreverent humor and parody. Funny bones vibrate to the lines in Lend Me A Tenor, the farcical and chaotic tale of an opera star entangled in romance, mistaken identity, and a maze of treble clefs.
Omaha Community Playhouse stages their productions in two theaters, including the spacious, 558-seat Howard and Rhonda Hawks Mainstage Theatre, which houses On Golden Pond, Altar Boys, and Lend Me A Tenor. The Howard Drew Theatre stages The Fantasticks, and seats between 200-230 people on risers, which change in configuration depending on the production and the theater’s horoscope.
Omaha Community Playhouse offers $10 tickets the first Wednesday night of each Maintage Series show’s run, and $7 student tickets (based on availability) each opening weekend.
