Established more than 30 years ago, River City Brass’ 28-piece ensemble (many of whom have been members since the early ’80s) play more than 50 concerts annually. These performances span various continents and centuries, with every month bringing a new showcase of styles. Modern music, classical pieces, big-band jazz, and show tunes have all passed through RCB’s bombastic cornets, bellowing tubas, and playful percussion. Broadway Brass! (September 6–13) blazes through Tony-seeking cuts from musicals such as Chorus Line, My Fair Lady, Wicked, and Jersey Boys, and next month’s October-Fiesta (October 4–11) melts autumn’s chill with the sizzling salsa of Tito Puente. The American Heroes series (November 2–15) pays tribute to our nation’s armed forces with the likes of “The Stars and Stripes” and “God Bless America,” featuring U.S. Air Force First Lieutenant Peter Folliard as guest conductor and the Blue Angels on the wind chimes. Other upcoming themed evenings include the yuletide euphony of Christmas Brasstacular (November 30–December 13), the guest bagpipes of Celtic Connections (March 1–14), and Beach Blanket Brass (May 2–9), bouncing with summer-themed ‘60s summer gems from hitmakers such as The Drifters and H. Owen Reed.
