Welcome to Rockville

A rock ‘n’ roll time traveler would fit right in at the two-day Welcome to Rockville fest. Drenched in hard-rock sounds that stretch from the ’70s to the ’90s to now, the grounds celebrate mind-shattering chords while keeping a respectful eye on the performers that paved the way.

Saturday, April 27

Four stages plug in and crank their amps for 12 hours of energy-drink-fueled head banging, guitar shredding, and gravel-voiced sing-alongs. Alice In Chains (9:45 p.m.), the harmonic rockers behind “Rooster” and “Man in the Box,” headline the evening, pulling from nearly three decades of hits, including tracks from 1992’s Dirt and their most recent effort, The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here. Multiplatinum rockers, Grammy nominees, and nü metal bad boys Papa Roach (5:25 p.m.) heat up the stage with odes to delinquency, such as the rap-infused “Last Resort,” the confessionary radio hit “Scars,” and fiery numbers from their latest album, The Connection. Adding his vocal sparks to the fire is Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit (8:30 p.m.), who rolls through his signature blend of rap-rock on tracks that brought the ’90s to life, such as “Nookie” and “Faith.”

**Sunday, April 28** Sunday propels legendary Southern rock band [Lynyrd Skynyrd](http://www.lynyrdskynyrd.com) (8:35 p.m.) into the headlining spot. From "Sweet Home Alabama" to "Free Bird," the memorable songs of Skynyrd have permeated generations of radio waves, homecoming parades, and rural moon landings. The band tours behind their most recent album, _Last of a Dyin’ Breed_, which sizzles with fresh cuts such as “Good Teacher” that sound just as rascally and familiar as fan favorites “That Smell” and “What’s Your Name.” Before the Skynyrd hits the stage, [Shinedown](http://www.shinedown.com/) (7:15 p.m.) infuses post-grunge distortion with pristine melody, as evidenced in the 2003 chart-topper "Fly from the Inside." The multiplatinum postgrunge rockers behind “Loser” and “Kryptonite,” [3 Doors Down](http://www.3doorsdown.com/splash) (6:05 p.m.), also strut their stuff, shaking hearts and bones with anthemic choruses and catchy refrains. **Lynyrd Skynyrd – “Sweet Home Alabama” during 2003’s The Vicious Cycle Tour**
