Live horseracing returns with thrilling action & high stakes as quarter horses thunder to the finish at beautifully landscaped track
Millions of people worldwide enjoy horse racing, but very few of them actually have the speed, strength, and endurance required to outrun a horse. Leave horseplay to the professionals with this deal to see live quarter-horse racing at Sam Houston Race Park. This season offers 27 days of live racing from Thursday, March 22, through Saturday, May 19. Post times are usually at 7 p.m. but can vary for special events such as Mother’s Day; check the calendar for details. Choose between the following options:
- For $12, you get four general-admission tickets (up to a $24 total value). Children 12 and younger are admitted for free, and the park will offer $1 admission on Saturday, March 24.
- For $200, you get a private house suite for up to 20 people, not including food (a $20.29 value per person; up to a $405.80 total value).<p>
In its 19th season, Sam Houston Race Park storms out of the gates with live horseracing that unbridles compact, muscular quarter horses. On weekend evenings, general-admission ticketholders can course through the paddock or sidle up toward the rail to catch a glimpse of photo finishes and breakaway victories. The lineup of special meets includes April 7’s Maiden Classic, which will dish out inaugural wins before the next week’s cash-laden $100,000 Bank of America Texas Challenge Championship (April 14). On Preakness Day (May 19), a trio of live challenges complements the simulcast of the second leg of horseracing’s Triple Crown from Pimlico.
Overlooking the track from a private suite, up to 20 guests can study the entire course, observing sprinters as they splash dirt onto the pack, only to slip back into their ranks as stamina-saving closers round the final turn for a galloping dash to the wire. Suite spectators may also place à la carte orders from the suite menu in advance of their race date.
Post-race, at the winner’s circle, check out champion steeds that celebrate with their jockeys with a complex series of hoof-to-hand high-fives before spiking their winning flower bouquet. In the club levels and on the paddock, spectators can refuel at the park’s various dining options or concessions stands (concessions are not included in this deal).
