Discover and photograph the elusive world of black bears in their natural habitat!
Every year, thousands of visitors flock to the Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary to observe and learn about black bears, their behaviors, habitat needs, and life cycles. From an elevated platform, guests can get a close-up view of a unique group of wild bears that visit the sanctuary each summer.
Located in the pristine North Woods of Minnesota, the Sanctuary is about two hours northwest of Duluth, with the nearest town, Orr, just 30 minutes away. Spanning over 500 acres, the Sanctuary features a diverse range of habitats, including aspen forests, cedar swamps, marshes, beaver ponds, meadows, and more.
While black bears are the main attraction, the Sanctuary is home to a rich variety of wildlife, including whitetail deer, bald eagles, beavers, bobcats, timber wolves, red squirrels, songbirds, and many other species. Although focused on black bears, the sanctuary's management ensures that all ecosystems within the area thrive.
The Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary also serves as an exceptional site for non-invasive scientific studies and educational programs, allowing visitors to deepen their understanding of the diverse natural resources in the area.
