During the two-hour class, students receive an introductory overview of the fundamentals of DJing with up to five other students, becoming acquainted with such topics as the equipment, counting, and music format. Each student should bring a flash drive or memory stick to take home his or her first DJ mix. The DJ party covers the same topics as the introductory class for groups of up to six celebrating such events as a birthday, bachelor party, or corporate event.
The DJ 101 course is the academy’s comprehensive introductory class, aimed at getting serious DJs started down the right path. Each week for six weeks, students meet to cover a wide range of topics and skills crucial to the professional DJ. The course explores the history of DJ technology as well as its modern incarnations, such as performance tools, libraries, mixing, and theory. At the end of the course, each student will perform a set in front of their classmates and become eligible to move on to the DJ 201 course––the second in the academy’s four-part DJ curriculum.

Inside the booths at Global DJ Academy, one will find instructors such as Walt White, a 15-year veteran DJ who goes by the name Dark Agenda, and Elliot Overson––aka DJ Wushu––demonstrating the art of thrilling crowds armed only with a set of turntables and records. The team collectively accounts for thousands of hours of experience both teaching and performing for live nightclub audiences, unlike amateur DJs who only play for those living above and below them. This level of experience ensures that the academy’s 2,500 square-foot facility is put to good use as they impart their knowledge to students using its two production studios, soundproof recording booth, and six DJ workstations. Students can expect to learn skills ranging from the basics to advanced analog techniques, such as scratching and effects, all on the school’s modern user interfaces as well as production software.
