Just East of the city of Memphis, nature and history lovers can enter a whole new world at Shelby Farms Park - one of the largest urban parks in the world. At 4,500 acres it covers an area full of lakes, natural forests and wetlands, providing a natural habitat for many animal species including beavers, deer, and turtles. Significantly, it is also home to a herd of bison. The remains of Nashoba Commune from the 19th century are still present and open to explore by any curious visitors.

Hiking and biking trails meandering through the park allow visitors to observe wildlife and nature and boating is allowed on two of the park's lakes. Paved trails are available around Patriot Lake and along the Chickasaw Trail. Off-leash dog activities are allowed in a 120-acre area that includes meadows, hiking trails and access to lakes. Horseback riding is allowed in parts of the park and on a few trails and visitors can rent horses on-site. If those are still not enough, guests are welcome to use a designated runway to start and land miniature radio-controlled aircraft or to spend a day at an 18-hole disc golf course.
