President John F. Kennedy and his vision of America as a leader in the intellectual and cultural realms, including his dedication to landing a man on the moon, is the inspiration for the world premiere of the new ballet Frontier (working title). Choreographed by Ethan Stiefel and danced by the Washington Ballet, Frontier is an examination of the rigors, both emotional and physical, necessary for space travel. In addition, you'll see Lilac Garden, a psychological ballet choreographed by Antony Tudor and set in the Edwardian period, about a woman engaged to a man she doesn't want to marry, along with The Dream, a charming interpretation of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, with choreography from Sir Frederick Ashton, hailed by The New York Times for "his refined sensibility and unbounded imagination." Experience this program of balletic bliss, with music from the Washington Ballet Orchestra led by conductor Martin West, at the Kennedy Center Opera House.
