A former site of both PGA Tour qualifying tournaments and U.S. Open qualifiers, Martin Downs Golf Club offers championship layout that will challenge skilled players as well as higher handicappers. Developed and built in the late 1970s, the course, which measures nearly 7,000 yards from the back tees, was designed by legendary Treasure Coast golf course architect Charles Ankrom. The layout is routed through 83 acres of native Florida terrain. There are five sets of tees, starting at 4,327 yards. The course features water on several holes, plenty of bunkers and fast greens. A staple of Martin County, this semi-private club offers both memberships and daily fee play. The no. 1 handicap hole is actually a fairly short par 4. The second hole plays just 373 yards from the back tees, but it's a sharp dogleg left that wraps around a large lake that comes into play both off the tee and on the approach. The par-5 third hole brings plenty of water into play as does the par-3 third, where golfers from the back tees must carry a pond to the green. Martin Downs Golf Club does not offer a driving range, but there is a practice bunker and chipping green, as well as a practice putting green. In the clubhouse you'll find a golf shop that offers the latest in apparel and accessories. The clubhouse restaurant, Eighteen, serves both golfers and the local community. Known for its creative Southern cuisine, the menu is seasonal. Guests can also enjoy panoramic views of the course, both inside and on the? outdoor verandah.
