Located on what was once Fort Benjamin Harrison and is now a state park, the golf course at The Fort Golf Resort is a wonderful Pete Dye/Tim Liddy design that will test the low handicap players and is a joy to play for all levels of golfers. Just minutes from downtown Indianapolis, the 7,148-yard par 72 course, which is rated more than 4 1/2 stars on GolfPass, is laid out over a natural setting of 238 acres with tree-lined fairways, rolling hills and undulating greens. There are five sets of tees, starting at 5,045 yards. The no. 1 handicap hole is the 479-yard, par-4 fourth, which is not only long, but fairly narrow with strategic bunkers protecting the green on the approach shot. The back nine is longer than the front nine by more than 200 yards and ends with a really tough stretch. The 16th hole is a 582-yard par-5, followed by a 247-yard par 3, and 474-yard par-4 18th. All three holes are heavily tree-lined and fairly narrow, and both the 16th and 18th are doglegs. In addition to the golf course, The Fort Golf Resort offers a driving range and practice putting green. Individual lessons are also available. And inside the clubhouse is a well-stocked golf shop as well as a place to buy snacks and drinks. The Fort Golf Resort also offers stay-and-play package opportunities with the Fort Harrison State Park Inn right on property.
