The former home of a PGA Tour Champions event from 1992 to 2012, the TPC Tampa Bay has a professional tour pedigree that carries over to this day. Jack Nicklaus, John Cook, Hale Irwin, Bernhard Langer and two-time winner Tom Watson are among the past champions of what became known as the Encompass Insurance Pro-Am on this par-71 course that measures nearly 7,000 yards from the tips. The Bobby Weed-designed layout boasts what was one of the toughest par 4s on the tour at the time, the 484-yard ninth, which presents plenty of trouble down the left side to go with its length. The finishing hole, which is around 450 yards and features an approach carry over water to a difficult green, is a tough way to wrap up the back nine. In between, the TPC Tampa Bay is a solid, Florida test. Success means you'll have to navigate water and wetlands, which is present on about half the holes, plus plenty of bunkers and trees. The greens also have plenty of undulation, so you'll have to pay attention with the putter. Most of all, though, the TPC Tampa Bay course is an interesting journey that's fun for every level of golfer if they play the proper tees. To go along with the course, the facility also has excellent practice facilities that include a large, grass driving range, expansive short-game area and putting green. Part of the PGA Tour's TPC Network, the TPC Tampa Bay also features a beautiful clubhouse with full-service golf shop and the Cuatro Restaurant and Bar, which features a seasonal menu made with fresh, local ingredients as well as hand-crafted cocktails.
