With great views, challenging holes and a friendly staff, Painted Mountain Golf Course offers a solid daily fee option to locals and visitors alike to the Phoenix area. We do have a resort next door in the Westgate Painted Mountain Golf Resort -- which also has volleyball, pools, basketball courts, a fitness center and other activities -- the golf course is a par-70 layout designed by Frank Boxberger. Opened in 1969, the course stretches to a little more than 6,000 yards and has four sets of tees, playing as short as 4,629 yards to accommodate every level of player. The course actually starts out with the no. 1 handicap hole, a 605-yard par 5 that features water on the opening tee shot down the right side of the hole. From there the course slowly rises to the highest point on the course, the 535-yard, par-5 ninth, before descending on the back nine to the clubhouse. The back nine is considerably shorter than the front because it has four par 3s, including back-to-back on holes 15 and 16 before ending with a couple of par-4 holes. Throughout the journey though, golfers will appreciate the layout's classic desert landscape, mountain views and abundance of wildlife, which may include an occasional coyote sighting. In addition to the course, Painted Mountain also offers a short-game area, and practice putting green. Inside the clubhouse is a well-stocked golf shop, offering a fine selection of apparel and accessories. Golfers and guests can also enjoy fine dining and entertainment at the Pizzicata Pizzeria Ristorante, which offers a diverse Italian menu of appetizers, entrees, cocktails and beer.
