Things have changed since Hilltop Restaurant opened in 1948, but not everything: Hilltop still dishes out homestyle food, and Hilltop is still perched ... on top of a hill. Credit that second fact for the name, as well as the views that look out on the rolling hills and thick forests. The inside boasts a rustic feel with stone fireplaces and wooden walls and furniture, and the cooks echo the atmosphere with thoughtful takes on down-home classics. That includes fried chicken, full-pound rib-eye steaks, and country dinners with baked ham and slow-roasted beef and gravy. Ditto the dessert menu: blackberry and peach cobblers and persimmon puddings for the final touches.
