Hope Summer Repertory Theatre's vibrant troupe of more than 100 company participants exhibit their fluency in staged expressions with a variety of plays and musicals. Hunker down in orchestra seats for any of the ten showings of Return to the Forbidden Planet, a drama scored with 1960’s rock-n-roll hits. Loosely based on the film Forbidden Planet, the musical hurls audiences through space aboard the starship Albatross when an unanticipated asteroid storm and the evil Doctor Prospero throws the stellar vessel off-course. The melodious production blends suspense, comedy, and intergalactic travel, transporting viewers to new worlds while conjuring up childhood dreams of wanting to grow up to be an asteroid.

Performances are held in the DeWitt Theatre on the campus of Hope College, which is located roughly a half-hour west of Grand Rapids. Stage-cravers are granted seats in the orchestra section, or in the actual orchestra pit if they bring their own flugelhorns.
