Used clothing has myriad advantages over new wares: it costs less, helps the environment, and sometimes imbues wearers with the previous owner’s superpowers. Power up with today’s Groupon: for $10, you get an all-you-can-stuff bag of clothes at one of Housing Works Thrift Shops' Buy the Bag Saturday warehouse sales (a $25 value). The events begin at 11 a.m. and end at 2 p.m., and shoppers may begin lining up at 9 a.m.

Housing Works provides New York's HIV/AIDS-afflicted homeless and low-income residents with countless lifesaving services, funded in part by the proceeds of its upscale thrift stores. Beginning July 23 and continuing for a smattering of Saturdays into October, the 35th Street warehouse will host a series of fashion-frenzied Buy the Bag events, where shoppers can pack sacks with donated designer styles, gently used vintage garb, extremely used sewing exercises, and an infinite amount of airy emperor clothes. The hodge-podge nature of the warehouse sale means there is no predicting what might end up in your booty sack, and the shopping experience's high-stakes scramble means that, though exhilarating, it may not be the best place for children. Clothing at these events is not sold solo, so grab what you can and sort it out by modern, retro, or so-retro-it's-modern when you get home.
