Bistros are remarkable in that they somehow manage to be both fancy and casual at the same time, much like a necktie with Taz on it. Feel gussied up without too much fuss with today's Groupon: for $15, you get $30 worth of international bistro fare and drinks at Jacqueline Suzanne's Bistro, located in Inglewood.
Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch, Jacqueline Suzanne's features a menu of well-crafted plates capable of pleasing at any hour of the day. The AAA Alberta prime rib, a house specialty, is available every Friday and Saturday night and consists of a juicy lifting disc of premium bovine served with supporting cast mates of savoury jus, Yorkshire pudding, roasted potatoes, and a montage of guest-starring vegetables (starting at $29.95 for a 10-ounce cut). Other dinner favourites include butternut-squash ravioli in a cream curry sauce ($18), an oven-roasted New Zealand rack of lamb ($36), and a spicy Italian sausage linguine dressed in a zesty tomato Creole sauce ($20) with heirloom cufflinks. Midday meals such as the chicken elegante casserole, a conglomeration of chicken, blue cheese, and broccoli sauce ($14), exude flavours capable of allowing patrons to imperceptibly shrink and teleport into their own mouths to languish in each bite. Several guises of eggs benedict appear on the breakfast menu, ranging from a classic back bacon benedict ($12.50) to a smoked salmon and flying-fish caviar variation ($14).
Jacqueline Suzanne's comfortable two-level dining area, collection of artwork, and classic décor create a casually elegant aura within the 1912-built heritage building it inhabits. An attentive and hospitable staff adds to the enjoyable dining experience and will happily answer questions concerning gluten content or the earth's gravitational pull. Reservations are recommended.
