Since 1989, the owner and director of Jane Forman Tennis Academy has been linking racket rookies ages 3–16 with USPTA– and PTR–certified instructors to hone technique and learn important rules of the game. During the afterschool sessions, experienced tennis pros tailor curriculums to pupils’ ability levels, demonstrating proper techniques that include proper positioning, the forehand and backhand, and the correct way to smash a walker studded with tennis balls over the net. Private lessons may be used by all ages and offer one-on-one training with Jane or another hard-court constituent, who imparts a how-to-guide to producing the most important fundamentals and intimidating grunts.
Intensive, net-traversing education awaits tennis tikes who attend a winter or spring session of holiday tennis camp. The camps emphasize fun with age-appropriate games and at least one counselor for every six kids. Children rotate from one activity to another in 15- to 20-minute increments with time for snacks or a lunch of surf and tennis turf. The winter session is December 19–January 2, and the spring session is March 12–26.

In 1986, Jane Forman stood on tennis' Mount Olympus—Centre Court at Wimbledon—and traded blows with an immortal: the legendary Martina Navratilova. Three years later, Jane—who soared into the world top 50 in her career—decided she'd rather impart her skills to others than continue playing professionally. So she founded Jane Forman Tennis Academy, where she links kids and adults alike with USPTA- and PTR-certified instructors to learn the rules of the game and hone their technique. The tennis pros tailor their curriculums to pupils' ability levels, helping them improve their serve, footwork, and most intimidating Gaelic battle cry. Private lessons are also available with Jane or another veteran of the hard court.
