Under the tutelage of Matt Janke, students can transform solid raw glass into molten syrup that's perfect for fashioning elegant works of art or sabotaging stacks of pancakes. During couples sessions, the studio generally hosts just two pairs, ensuring budding artists get plenty of personal attention and ample room for glass-jousting tournaments. Over 90 minutes, each student forges both a glass flower and a paperweight, the latter of which can be inscribed with a date or a short message revealing one's true feelings about sci-fi. Students may warm themselves by the 300-pound furnace while nibbling on one of three elegant appetizers from Serpas, easily washed down with complimentary wine. Alternatively, Groupon customers can organize a three-hour glass-blowing party for up to 12 people.
Classes are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis during morning, afternoon, and evening hours every day but Wednesday. Janke Studios requests class-goers reserve studio space at least 30 days in advance. Early-bird glass blowers will receive a credit to Serpas for their appetizer, since the kitchen is closed during morning hours to respect the needs of sleepy cutlery.
