Children are equally agile on land and sea, much like ducks and amphibious squirrels. Widen your child's aerobatic horizons with today's Groupon: for $30, you get $80 worth of classes, free play, parities, and more at Elite Gymnastics & Aquatics, just north of College and Pflumm.
For 38 years, Gerald Carley and crew have coached aspirant acrobats and aquanauts toward high-flying athletic achievements. Open to both casual and competitive athletes, Elite is equipped with an expansive, well-stocked gym, tropically humid salt-water swimming pools, and distinctively simian monkey bars in an effort to simulate the legendary jungle-island paradise of Acroblantis.
Every Friday during September–May features the kids-only Munchkin open gym from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. for ages 6 and under ($5/child, parents are free), at which specially designed obstacle courses might feature zip lines, inflatable playgrounds, or rock-climbing walls week by week. Saturdays usher in all-ages open play ($7/person) from noon to 1:30 p.m., with special events planned throughout the year.
Cultivating competitive calisthenites has always been the fundamental goal of Elite. Gymnastics classes are co-ed for ages 3 to kindergarten and girls only ages 6.5 and up (starting at $123 for eight weeks). As the limber little ones progress, they may be invited to especially challenging pre-competitive classes.
Tots moisten toes as young as 6 months in swim classes and may edge ever closer to the deep end with more demanding classes as they improve (all casual classes $90 for an eight-week session). Gentle private classes for the hydrophobic may be scheduled for $35 per lesson. All aquatics and gymnastics classes require an annual $30 fee.
