  • Lasik is generally appropriate for people who are burdened by glasses or contact lenses. It can treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. If you have the eye condition known as presbyopia and need to wear bi-focals you may be offered monovision Lasik or Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE). These options can reduce or eliminate your dependence on bi-focals or reading glasses. They are generally offered to people over 40 for monovision and over 50 for RLE. The RLE procedure is performed by Dr. Cameron Evans. The first step is to visit us and have a free consultation with one of our doctors to determine if we can do this for you safely and effectively and to determine which option(s) is(are) best for your visual needs. Once this is determined you may schedule surgery at your convenience. On surgery day, for Lasik, a laser is used to create a small flap on the corneal surface. A laser then reshapes the curvature of the cornea according to the treatment customized for your eye. Next, the flap is replaced and seals on its own, not requiring any sutures. Eyes typically heal well enough for patients to go back to work if they wish the next day. For RLE and Premium Cataract, an ultrasound device is used by the surgeon to remove the crystalline lens of the eye and this lens is replaced by a new clear lens. Most procedures result in 20/20 or better vision.

About Keil Lasik Vision Center

Dr. Keil founded Keil Lasik Vision Center with the mission to serve people by eliminating the burden of glasses and contact lenses. He has lived in Grand Rapids for over 16 years and grew up in Manistee. He had this life enhancing procedure done on himself and has performed Lasik on friends and relatives alike. He first became involved in Lasik in 1999 and has been performing it in Grand Rapids since 2006. Dr. Keil has dedicated his career to enhancing the lives of others with this remarkable procedure.

“It’s been over ten years since I had my procedure and I’m still amazed at my vision. I promise that I will do everything I can to make your results as amazing as mine .” - Dr. Keil. The technology. What does it all mean? When considering Lasik the most important factor is selecting a surgeon who is focused on you and your vision needs AND understands the best technology to match those needs. That said, there are two factors that are critical if you want the safest and most precise results. 1) All laser Lasik and 2) Custom Lasik (sometimes known as Wavefront optimized or guided). Dr. Keil does more of these types of procedures than anyone in the area. *Topography guided Lasik has the ability to improve an asymmetric eye shape. It is not needed for most eyes (for example, if your eye shape is already symmetric). If it is appropriate for your eye, Dr. Keil performs this at no extra cost. Dr. Keil was the first surgeon in West Michigan to offer topography guided Lasik. (Some companies call this contura).
