Invisalign straightens teeth with a series of clear, removable, and custom aligners. The process begins at the dentist’s office, where, during an initial exam, the doctor snaps x-rays and takes impressions of the upper and lower teeth. In the Invisalign lab, technicians craft a set of up to 48 transparent aligners made to the patient’s exact specifications. Patients wear the removable aligners for 6–18 months, changing them every two weeks and only removing them while eating or brushing. Metal braces are the most common type of braces, and are more comfortable today than they’ve ever been. Made of high-grade stainless steel, metal braces straighten teeth using metal brackets and archwires. Metal braces include the option of adding colored elastics (rubber bands) for a more unique and colorful smile.
Ceramic “tooth-colored” braces are translucent brackets that blend in with the natural tooth color. They are used with patients who are concerned about the appearance of their smile, as they are less metallic-looking than traditional braces. Ceramic braces are designed to resist staining and discoloration over long periods of time.
