Humans would never have started riding horses if it weren't for donkeys' willful stubbornness and unicorns' sad nonexistence. Jump into an amenable saddle with today's Groupon: for $50, you get three private horse-riding lessons (a $105 value) at Linden Hill Stables in Kearney.

Amid 20 verdantly wooded acres, the three barns and two showing arenas of Linden Hill Stables sit in the shade of a century-old house. Young and old alike can take advantage of the equine expertise of owner and riding instructor Lisa Hillmer. Each private lesson runs roughly 30 minutes—including prep time and the horse's hair and makeup—and teaches a variety of skills appropriate for the individual student's riding level. Pony buffs without their own steed can saddle up one of the well-heeled lesson horses kept idling in the stable for just such occasions.

Linden Hill Stables requires rein wranglers to wear long pants, shoes with solid bottoms, and a bedazzled riding helmet, though those without the latter can borrow one.

About Linden Hill Stables

Amid 20 acres of pastures and trails, the three barns and century-old home of Linden Hill Stables perch in the shade of mature trees, granting an idyllic setting for horse-riding lessons, birthday parties, and children's day camps. Property owner Lisa Hillmer tends to the horses each day, calling upon a lifetime of experience in training and showing American saddlebred horses. Through individually tailored riding lessons, Lisa helps students achieve personal goals, such as riding comfortably for enjoyment or participating in competitions. Her helpful staff also assists in boarding horses and monitoring kids at day camp. Students are required to wear long pants and closed-toe shoes while atop one of Linden Hills' well-trained steeds, their own horse, or a 1,000-pound housecat.
