The perfect food and wine pairing is like the fateful meeting of destined lovers, best celebrated with a tiny mock wedding presided over by a curmudgeonly pepper mill with a heart of gold. Classes start on September 21 and are not held between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day.
Long’s Wines & Liquors hosts a collection of wines, spirits, and tastings to fill its patrons with delight and vinous valuables. Every Tuesday and Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., novice and experienced oenophiles alike can attend a Greek 101 wine tasting and class ($40) to learn about wine-worthy Greek grapes with ideal baby names, such as Assyrtiko, Moschofilero, Agiorghitiko, and Xinomarvro. Wines from various regions of Greece will be served with a variety of cheeses and other appetizing treats from Athena, a local Hellenic eatery. After wooing their tongues with moderate sips and sups, participants get to take home a select bottle from among the tasting choices (up to $15) to fully irrigate parched throats during the dry season. Discounts will also apply for those who want to shop for wine—10% off all bottles, 17% off cases, and 20% off case pairs.
