About Longue Vue House and Gardens
Established by philanthropists Edith and Edgar Stern, Longue Vue House and Gardens is a sprawling estate featuring a majestic three-story home and eight acres of mesmerizing gardens. Tours are available every day of the week—here's what you can expect to find when you stop by this National Historic Landmark:
The house: Built between 1939–1942, the Longue Vue home holds rank as one of the last houses built during the Country Place Era. Tours traipse through the main living spaces, which includes 20 rooms, original furnishings, and a large collection of artwork.
The gardens: Spread across eight acres, the gardens blossom with dozens of different flowers and plants every season. The collection includes an unparalleled number of Louisiana irises, as well as Louisiana blue phlox in April and Gulf Coast muhly in October.
The extras: Children can enjoy the estate, too, thanks to its interactive discovery garden and lineup of kid-centered activities. In fact, Longue Vue opens its doors for field trips and educational outings.
